My 1981 honda hawk 400cc bike has a cap over the kick starter hole, why?
This motor looks identical to most twin hondas of the 70s, but this one, where the kick start shaft would leave the engine, has a plug plugging it. Its just an electric start only bike. I dont understand why the factory decided to not include it.
Is it possible for me to remove that cap plug, get a kick start shaft and kick start lever and add it onto this bike?
The old, early, big kawasaki kz1000's had kick starters, but the factory got rid of them in about 80. But i saw on a forum where the guy took off the plug and added an earlier kick start to it.
Can i do this same thing with this old honda?

When they updated, they used the original side case, hence the plug. How much of the insides they used varied with Mfg date. What I would suggest is that you find online an earlier manual (One that had the kick start) normally you can find them for free.
Then remove your plug or side case and look inside, If all the other parts are there, you should be able to buy the kick start shaft, gears, etc and install them. But you wont know unless you open it up.
