Sport Psychology - Master of the formula for success

Have you ever faced an opponent who was as dedicated as you or not working as hard as you, but somehow found a way to beat you in competition?

Poor performance can be super frustrating for most athletes. My students think it's a frustrating training. Who says things like "I work on my game harder than anyone. Why less talented or lazy sport, if I fight? I can not stand it! "

My answer is simple: "Hard work and talent alone is not the complete formula for success. "But no reason for poor performance is more complex.

Most athletes motivated, perfectionist, working out of their end of the tail every day in practice, can not be beaten by pirates stomach or in bulk. Slackers are athletes who practice not much, it seems as if they care about their sport, or are unorthodox in their methods. How frustrating than beating one!

The irony is the dedicated, motivated athletes using their frustration to work even harder for them to win the next contest. However, this leads to more emotional investment. Greater emotional investment leading to high expectations and yet more frustration after failure.

You can see that there is a vicious circle. How can break the cycle?

Perfectionist, hard working athletes - the dream of a coach - have difficulty to break the vicious circle because they believe it is impossible to practice or train too. In their minds, more effort and practice is the formula for success.

From my experience, success in sports does not always work that way.

What is the first step to break the negative cycle of hard work - without success - the frustration - and work harder?

If you are highly motivated perfectionist, the first step is to understand that his attitude may not be as effective as you think. You must also realize that you can work hard in the sport.

Doing representatives several rounds, injections, or devote more time to reiterate that anyone who does not always translate into actual practice.

If this scenario sounds familiar family, then you have to work harder to recognize, does not produce the best performance. I realize their emotional investment in the success * * grows, leading eventually driving down short of its potential.

More motivated perfectionistic athletes have half the success formula to correct. They have an intense inner drive to succeed and are willing to take the time to be good.

All great athletes have that mentality, the fingertips, like Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, and Vijay Singh. However, they are another component the formula for success too. These athletes are able to obtain the maximum capacity when competing.

* * You should consider this principle during training and practice. Practice and training are only effective if you help a good performance in competition. This is the real reason why the train practice or not?

This brings me to another drive type variables in the formula for success - a set of powerful producers mind capacity to compete under the pressure of the crisis in time. Hard working athletes perfectionist in his own way, thinking too much analysis, trying too hard, and increasingly consumed with stress or anxiety.

The major reason that you enter in your own way and the evil is dying to win. Fear of failure is like a thorn in his side, does not allow you to concentrate fully on their performance.

Some tips to help you make a sudden focused state of mind free of fear, each time you enter the competition.

1. Let unrealistic expectations. Extremely high expectations can make you feel like a failure, no matter what you do. This is simply not realistic expect to score every time receives the ball perfectly or have a chance to score. The high expectations regarding its performance continuously. Set realistic goals for the game that allows a human error is a better option. The goal is to "pass" when mistakes are made.

2. Focus on fun, not perfect. You are probably very hard for him in practice and games. The tension and frustration that experience partly the result of too much emphasis on trying to be perfect. Try to have fun with their football. Enjoy the time spent on the ground instead of judge yourself by how they do on every play.

3. Do not dwell on the shortcomings. If you are a perfectionist, you spend much time insisting mistakes and weaknesses. This is not healthy for your confidence and allow you to enjoy your sport. You are not a failure, you only choose to think more about their shortcomings. You must decide to think about what you have done in each practice and game. Remember the good parts and low rather than repeat their mistakes or faults.

4. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Perfectionists believe that nothing less than a flawless performance is a failure. You must accept the fact that they are human and all have bad days like anything else. Sometimes, it helps give you permission to make mistakes. You're not perfect, and even the best football players in the world makes mistakes.

5. Passing the exam closed book. I tell many of my athletes that practice is for training and improving technology and competition is to put your skills tested. It works!
