Dirtbike shuts off when revved.?
I have a Yamaha 450f and after a year of sitting in the shed I changed out the jets, throttle tube and tire tubes. It starts perfectly and idles ok. But when revved maybe a quarter of the way it starts to lose rpm's and shuts off. And it makes a weird noise like a slight whistle or cricket type of noise. I thought it was the old gas in the tank so I put new premium gas and sea foam as well. I tried playing around with the carburetor but i can't get play nice. BUT... it does rev all the way when the choke is open (and I have to hold the damn thing open. It wont stay out >:/ ....) Any whom, can anybody tell me what is wrong or I'm doing wrong?
Sometimes, Spark gap will cause this problem. Re-gap them. Sometimes, the shutoff valve clogs or its rubber rots and restricts fuel flow. See if you can take the hose lose going from the tank to the carbs, at the carbs. Now, check the fuel flow volume. You should fill a coffee cup with gas in 30 seconds easily. That will tell you if the problem is above or in the carbs.
That noise, if it is a air leak - sucking in air into the motor would be a noise maker. If holding the choke close makes it run better - you have a air leak. Hold a short piece of garden hose to your ear - motor running, and poke the other end around the carburetor areas and you will detect a change in sound at the air leakage point.
